summertime and the living is easy

I have seen the Mormon Temple. I have been to Capitol Hill. The White House. The Washington Monument. Watergate Hotel. Fahrenheit 9/11.

I have been to five states. California. Utah. Minnesota. Virginia. I'm currently in Rockville, Maryland, fifteen minutes away from our nation's Capital, which may count as a state since it receives 3 electoral votes and enters one Ms. America contestant annually.

I work at a law firm from 9 to 6, 3 days a week, for three weeks. At the end of this internship I will collect my stipend on $200. Extra spending money I have no intention of spending.

Typhoon hits home. Island lacks power. Governor calls in the cavalry: FEMA and the Red Cross. Family has running water. Clean, I'm not sure, but water coming from faucets and pipes alike is always a necessity.

And here I am at a large receptionist's deck answering phones with the standardized greeting of "Good morning/afternoon, the law office of Thomas L. Heeney. My name is Ronn. How may I help you", occasionally stumbling over words and swearing under my breath whilst listening to clients' dilemmas and irritant ramblings, personally mistaking me as one with actual knowledge of the legal system in Maryland. There is also filing to be done, and a bit of photocopying. This job will show me to be absolutely faultless and completely capable of office work on each one of my resumès to Bill Gates, Donald Trump, and Hugh Hefner next year. I am heavily considering being an intern for life, for this type of employment saves you from outstanding responsibity and burdening labor.

So goes my summer.
