Is it just me, or does there seem to be an overabundance of stupid people on this island? Apparently they make up a vast majority of the students at MHS. One can only hope to be in a class containing at least one person with a moderate grasp on the English language. Sadly, this is mostly the case at MHS.
I worry about what effect this school will have on me in the future. I appreciate the competent teachers and variety of extra-curricular crap, but I grow weary of the constant bombardment of thug-lingo and island-speak. I've been commented on my "haole" accent multiple times these last few weeks, which goes to show you how these kids regard the English language.
You don't have to step foot on mainland American soil to obtain a decent 'American' accent, kiddos. Go read a book. If that's beyond your capabilities, watch some TV and try to take notes. Mental notes, if you've never had third-grade phonics. Now, if you're still not getting anywhere, isolate yourself from every family member you know who's lived on this island for more than 15 years and abandon every notion of culture and learning that you've acquired so far. That might help you gain some progress. Then swear two times (using the corrects idioms, please), and call me in the morning.
